Duties and Jurisdiction of Legal Office


A) The approved Duties of the Legal Office
1)    To monitor the ways  contracts are signed between the University and natural or legal persons and to comment on the drafts of the contracts’ contents for different sections;
2)    To supervise the proper implementation of the stipulated legal provisions of the contracts;
3)    To attend court and hearing sessions for cases related to the university and to legally reject or accept the cases;
4)    To follow up legal issues, to investigate and review the laws and regulations as well as to make the required suggestions for establishing uniform legal procedures;
5)    To provide counsel to different sections of the university in order to prevent mistakes that can lead to legal disputes;
6)    To develop the required protocols, charters and by-laws;
7)    To cooperate and act in the preparation and creation of legal archives and maintenance and classification of enactments;
8)    To classify the received from relevant authorities and to refer the complaints to the  specialized units or committees;
9)    To file a lawsuit against natural and legal persons who have acted against the university's rights in various fields;
10)    To have the essential correspondence with the judicial authorities (including courts, the police force, etc.)
11)    To respond to and address the clients problems and issues with different sections of the university;
12)    To perform additional duties assigned by university authorities.
B) Other Duties
1.    To offer legal advice, counseling, and support to faculty members and university staff in cases where lawsuits and complaints are filed in judicial departments against them while doing their assigned tasks and duties; 
2.    Documentation of the university's immovable assets and to conduct the registration procedures;
3.    To obtain notarial commitment, pledge title deed, mortgage collateral properties, redeem mortgage, convert bails, obtain the amounts of collateral, etc.;
4.    To provide legal advice, whether for internal or external organizational cases, which are referred to the legal office by the chancellor or any of the vice-chancellors;
5.    To offer legal counseling, follow up, review and deal with the legal office matters such as drafting contracts, complaints, lawsuits, statements of defense related to university;
6.    To refer to notary public, the Office of Registering Deeds and Properties, the Office of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare, the Social Security Organization, municipalities, public and Revolutionary courts, the Court of Administrative Justice, and other governmental and non-governmental organizations located nationwide for cases related to the university as well as to carry out all matters assigned by the university authorities.
